feedback

Today our group took part in a class activity designed to help us evaluate our project. We gained valuable feedback and constructive criticism. The results we got where interesting to look at.
one of the feed back results showed us a small continuety error that we have. we will aim to fix this b the end of the course.

looking at everyone else's filming, showed us that each group had put in just as much effort as us, and that the class is very talented. we gave each class feedback on there prject as well.
there were couple that needed more work on than others, but overall, each one was very good in there own way.

5th

today was the last day of the editing. we managed to finish the montage and also put all the text into the the video. we had to rename the name of our production company, from donkey punch productions to HYPE productions. this is due to the sexual nature of the word ''donkey punch'' and it was deemed inappropriate by our teacher.
we found out that it wasnt possible to put on the music we had decided as it is a youtube video(one of joshs friends from his previous school) and it is ilegal to download.

so we searched the soundtrack programe for a song that we could put over the video. we decided not to have one over the chase scene in the end due to the fact that none of the songs matched the genre of the film.

4th lesson editing

today we got the music for the pictures montage so that we could put it over the top.
we found a ''heartbeat'' that was just a drum from soundtracks, but it was the closest thing we could find.
for a flatline, we got chris to log into a website henis a member of, and download a flatline loop sound effect that we could put in at the end of the heartbeat.
we felt that the heart beat wasnt enough to just have, so we put some deep bass classical music just under it, so it sounded very effective for the film type, and gave the effect of a dangerous night and dangerous area.

3rd lesson editing

today we started doing the pictures for the montage.
during half term, josh went out and took some pictures from around wallington and carsholton area. these pictures matched the film well, and kept in tune with the genre.
to cut these we had to put them in as if they were a video, and cut them to around 4-1 seconds.
once we put these to then had to try and find some music to put over the top.

the music we wanted was a heart beat then a flat line so it gave an effect that someone had been killed.

2nd lesson editing

this lesson we started from where we left of last lesson, just by doing all the cutting.
we more or less finished the editing this lesson, now all we needed to do was to start doin the speeding up process which is needed in two parts of the 2 minute introduction to the film.
we managed to do this in the lesson, meaning that the film editing was done, all that was needed now was to put all the photos in the montage at the begining of the introduction and also put in the text and the sound effects.

1st lesson editing.

today we put the filming onto the computer for the first bits of editing. mainly this lesson we just uploaded the tape, and decided how we should cut and edit the film. after deciding what to do, we proceeded to start to cut pieces of work and input and output the different bits of film.

filming.

yesterday we did the filming for our film.
the 4 of us went to redhills cromwell estate to film for media. we all came in the appropriate costumes and had our props with us. in total we were filming for around 2 and a half hours. we managed to make sure that we did every scene 2 to 3 times so that we had a choice of which one looked best, so it could be put into the film.

our last scene was the most dangerous, as we had to film one of us being run over by jakes car. we attempted this twice. first time we planned to hit the person being run over at around 5 mph, so that we could speed it up in the final cut programe. this is hard as the person had to run even slower because of the speeding up process, so on the second shot we did it at about 10mph, this worked fine.
The filming was cut up,, and done by each of us at one point. most of the filming was done by beth, who handled the role very well. the acting was mainly left up to jake, josh and myself. we also did small bits of filming as well, but mainly just decided with what shots and how we should film, along with beth.

screenshots

2 lessons ago, we did the screenshots for our story board.
we went into a ally to take this in reigate. due to reigate not having that many decent alley ways or tall council estate looking buldings, we did it in the alley just inbetween reigate grammar and the high street.
i borrowed joshs hoodie because he had a scarf he could wrap around his face. jake already had his hoodie on him.

we took a good amount of different angle shots.

Scene opens In a council estate with Chronic and Moneyz beating up another youth with a baseball bat.  Chronic is wearing a light grey nike tracksuit, whilst Moneyz is wearing a dark grey nike tracksuit.   All that can be heard is the grunting from the boys and the shouting for help from the boy being beaten up.  Suddenly a large group of boys appear from round the corner.  Moneyz and chronic stop and stare at them with a worried look.  The large gang start to chase chronic and moneyz.  Loud grime music starts.

They are chased for around a minute, whilst the producer, development company and the actors are introduced.

In this introduction , we will be introduced to the characters Moneyz and Chronic first.  This will be whilst they are being chased.  Then we will be introduced to j-STAR and shaniqua whilst they are smoking a joint in there car

After the chase, jake will get out of his car with a gun and threaten to shoot the gang.

There will then be some dialogue at the end of the scene for a short amount of time.

22nd jan. presentation

in todays lesson we performed our presentation. i felt it went very well. we all managed to perform are lines well, and clearly.
the slideshow its self looked very neat, tidy and profesional.
also, when the class asked the group questions, we managed to answer them well. in comparison to the other groups presentations, i feel we did very well, and it was one of the better planned ones.

LOCATION, MUSIC AND COSTUME

¨The film is based in South London, but the filming from us will take place in Redhill because it is easy for us to get to and meet up there.  We will have to call the local police during the filming day due to the fact we will be in a public area with potential weapons whilst filming.
¨The music we will use is unsigned grime acts.  This is very similar to films like bullet boy and kidulthood who used lots of grime acts to boost there artists reputations.
¨The costumes we will wear are very simple.  We will wear tracksuits that represent youths in london and other accessories(ie- balaclavas, and chains etc)
¨The props used will be baseball bats, cars,  guns and etc

PRODUCTION AND BUDGET

We have taken a long time in planning the production stages to ensure we get it right first time because we don’t have great deal of time.

We have been put into our specific groups to work in, so our first task was to decide who would play each role in the planning and making of our short film introduction. We decided to have Josh as the produces, Jake as the director, Max as the casting director and beth as a primary character.  All of us will appear in the film and our characters will be introduced.

development

¨Our main idea for this film was to produce a gritty and realistic UK crime drama based in the South of London that will appeal to an audience aged between 15 up to any age who are intrigued to get an insight into the life of the youth today.
¨We are aiming to produce this with a budget of £10, this will include our transport costs and we will be borrowing equipment and editing software from our college. We will be able to market this film with the budget allocated as we will be relying on word of mouth and minor hand made posters and/or websites including facebook groups and myspace pages.
¨Our film will be classified into the genre of Crime Documentary similar to other successful films of this type such as Kidulthood, Adulthood, Rolling with the Nines, Bullet boy or even Tv dramas such as West 10 LDN.

tonights group homework

for our groups homework , we each have to find out the budget for a film similar to one we are making, so that we can see the realistic aim. we also have to make sure that we have the right clothes for when we start filmimg.
this is a tracksuit or something like that.

Tuesday 20th January

In todays lesson we put together our budget plan. Every film needs careful planning when it comes to managing finnces, expesically independant films with a small budget. Max used the resources provided but John to srite up our final budget plan.

The numbers we used where exagerated to make the budget look more realistic, we will also complete the task by writing up a budget with our actual figure but at the present there is not enough funding to work out how much to spend on each aspect of the film and planning.

The next step is to start casting actors and drawing up the blue prints for the production process.

18th january 2009

this lesson we are going to construct a presentation that we have to pitch to the class about our movie.
we need to cover our development ideas, are target audience, the budget, marketing and genre.

we also need to talk about the stages of production including cast, crew, locations, music, costumes, props.. etc.
in the presentation we also need to cover the distribution and how we would advertise the film. this includes the release strategy(cinema, dvd,tv,etc), press and publicity and festivals etc.

15th January analysis

We as a group have decided to take our original idea as our final project idea. We could not find any significant problems to prevent us from following the original plan. Although we have changed the location from Carshalton to Redhill because we would find it very hard to get the amount of people we would need participate as extras in some of the scenes where as if we film in Redhill we could get plenty of friends and family to help us out. Due to the nature of our film we will have to speak to the local police to ensure they know we pose no threat to the public when we are using props like baseball bats, balaclavas and knifes etc.

Monday, 12 January 2009

the 2009 UK crime thriller introduces new young and up coming actors such as Josh Hyatt (chronic) , Jake Pennell j- star), Max SJoblom (moneyz) and Beth Forster Coleman (shaniqua). we follow them on a journey trying to rise through the Uk crime scene throughout London. we see how chronic and moneyz get trapped into a world of hard drugs and violence, and the struggle of j-star and Shaniqua trying to deal with her teen pregancy. when chronic and moneyz fall into a police trap, chronic cannot deal with the death of his childhood crime partner, moneyz. j-star struggles with the pressure of fatherhood and things start to fall apart within the group. we see how they start to plot against each other, just in order to save themselves.

Planning and Research

Josh Hyatt. Max Sjoblom, Beth Forster Coleman, Jake Pennell

Our main idea for our film clip is an opening sequence shot as a montage with a collection of different crimes being acted out and still images of drugs, graffiti, street robbery, weapons and london also of the environment our show is set in, South London. After a short montage we will introduce each charactor as a specialist in a specific crime or type of crime e.g violence, drugs, graffiti, robbery etc... We will film a majority of our sequence in carshalton and redhill. Also in our montage we plan to use mobile film videos in the sequence to add realism to the levels of crime and the events occuring.
We plan to use different colour hues in our shots to set a mood also a wide variation of background music such as grime or drum and bass that will suit the shots. We will take inspiration from music videos that introduce grime artists such as choong family and take 2 win. Also drawing inspiration from films such as lock stock and two smoking barrels and snatch.
